Microsoft explique comment son concurrent du DLSS utilise l’IA pour améliorer n’importe quel jeu.

MICROSOFT LAUNCHES AUTO SR FEATURE ON COPILOT PLUS PCS

Microsoft has introduced a new Automatic Super Resolution (Auto SR) feature on its upcoming Copilot Plus PCs. This innovative technology will compete with high-end solutions like Nvidia’s DLSS, aiming to automatically upscale game resolutions and enhance frame rates. The AI-based Auto SR feature is set to revolutionize the gaming experience, and Microsoft is providing detailed insights into how it sets itself apart from other technologies like DLSS, XeSS, and FSR.

INTEGRATION OF AUTO SR INTO WINDOWS 11

Auto SR will be integrated into Windows 11 and will be available on Copilot Plus devices equipped with a dedicated Neural Processing Unit (NPU). Unlike other super resolution technologies that require manual setup or alterations by game developers, Auto SR is designed to seamlessly enhance existing games without the need for additional configuration.

MICROSOFT’S UNIQUE APPROACH

According to the DirectX team’s blog post, Auto SR stands out from other super resolution technologies like AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution, Intel XeSS, and NVIDIA DLSS Super Resolution built into games. While these approaches typically require modifications in rendering techniques, Auto SR focuses on enhancing games without requiring additional information, ensuring a smooth and efficient gaming experience.

LARGER AI MODELS FOR ENHANCED VISUALS

Auto SR utilizes larger AI models combined with the NPU on Copilot Plus devices to apply AI enhancements to game visuals. By rendering games at lower resolutions, the technology optimizes frame rates without significantly impacting GPU performance. This strategic shift not only enhances frame rates but also improves energy efficiency, resulting in an overall enhanced gaming experience.

A SLIGHT LATENCY TRADEOFF

Despite its benefits, Auto SR does introduce a single frame of latency on average due to the use of AI to enhance game visuals. Microsoft acknowledges this tradeoff and plans to conduct further testing to assess the impact on different games and user experiences.

AUTOMATIC ENHANCEMENT OF SELECTED GAMES

Upon the initial launch on June 18th, Microsoft will automatically enhance 11 games that have been tested for improved visual quality and frame rates. Games such as Borderlands 3, Control, Dark Souls III, and more are included in the launch list, verified by Microsoft for enhanced performance.

EASY TOGGLE AND SETTINGS ADJUSTMENT

Microsoft ensures that users can easily toggle the Auto SR feature on or off and customize settings for individual games. While the list of supported games will expand over time, users have the flexibility to explore the feature on untested games, with the ability to force the setting on. However, Microsoft advises that results may vary, and the feature’s effectiveness cannot be guaranteed for all games.

FUTURE AVAILABILITY AND ENHANCEMENTS

The first set of Copilot Plus PCs with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite chips is scheduled for release on June 18th. Microsoft plans to extend the Auto SR feature to new AMD- and Intel-powered devices in the future, with ongoing improvements such as support for HDR and multiple-monitor configurations. The company aims to bring Auto SR to a wider range of devices and expand its compatibility with x64 emulated games.

As Microsoft continues to enhance the Auto SR technology, users can expect a more immersive and efficient gaming experience across various devices. Stay tuned for future updates and advancements in this groundbreaking feature.
