CONFIRMED: XBOX GAMES COMING TO OTHER PLATFORMS
Xbox chief Phil Spencer has officially announced that more of Microsoft’s exclusive games will be available on rival platforms like the PS5 and Nintendo Switch. Earlier this year, Microsoft revealed that four Xbox-exclusive games would be launching on the PS5 and some on the Nintendo Switch, leaving fans curious about the extent of this expansion. In an interview with IGN, Spencer clarified that more games will indeed be coming to other platforms in the future.
"Our commitment to our Xbox customers is that you will have the opportunity to purchase or subscribe to the game, and we will ensure support for the game on various screens," Spencer stated. "You can expect to see more of our games on a wider range of platforms, as we believe this will benefit the franchises we are building and cater to the players who enjoy playing them."
NO CHANGE IN XBOX EXCLUSIVITY STRATEGY
The confirmation of additional games being released on rival platforms follows previous statements by Spencer denying any shift in Microsoft’s strategy regarding Xbox exclusives. Earlier this year, Spencer mentioned in an Xbox podcast that the decision to release four games on other consoles was not a deviation from their core exclusive strategy.
Microsoft recently showcased a lineup of new Xbox games, including titles like "Doom: The Dark Ages" and "Gears of War: E-Day." Interestingly, throughout the event, the term "exclusive" was noticeably absent, indicating a deliberate choice by the company to refrain from emphasizing exclusivity. This approach has been consistent for several months, with Microsoft-owned studios like Arkane Lyon unveiling games without specifying exclusivity to Xbox.
EXPANDING POSSIBILITIES
Furthermore, Bethesda’s upcoming game "Indiana Jones and the Great Circle" was previewed earlier this year, confirming Xbox and PC as launch platforms without any mention of exclusivity. Microsoft is reportedly considering releasing the game on the PS5 several months after its initial launch on Xbox later this year, indicating a shift towards broader accessibility for their games.
Despite these developments, Spencer did not provide further details on Microsoft’s multiplatform plans, and the company’s showcase event focused primarily on exciting game trailers, marking it as one of the most impressive Xbox showcases in recent years.
STAY TUNED FOR MORE OPPORTUNITIES
As Microsoft continues to expand the availability of its games across different platforms, gamers can look forward to experiencing a more inclusive gaming ecosystem. The future holds promising possibilities for enjoying Microsoft’s exclusive titles on various consoles, providing players with more options to explore their favorite games.
