Le MX Ink est le premier stylet 3D de Logitech pour le Meta Quest.

INTRODUCTION

Today, Logitech officially revealed its latest innovation, the MX Ink stylus, designed specifically for the Meta Quest 2 and Quest 3 headsets. This stylus aims to provide artists with a more natural and intuitive tool for content creation in a mixed reality environment, offering a similar experience to using traditional art tools like pencils or paintbrushes.

A NEW ERA IN CONTENT CREATION

While the native controllers of the Meta Quest headsets have been praised for their tracking accuracy and low-latency performance, they may not be the ideal interface for content creation tasks, often feeling cumbersome for artists. Many creatives prefer using a stylus for tasks like sketching or designing, as seen in the success of companies like Wacom. Recognizing this need, Logitech is introducing the MX Ink stylus to elevate content creation in the third dimension.

THE DESIGN AND FEATURES OF MX INK

The MX Ink stylus is notably thicker than traditional tablet styluses, weighing in at 29 grams compared to the 20.7 grams of the second-gen Apple Pencil. This unique design allows for a more comfortable and natural grip when creating 2D content in a mixed reality setting. The stylus features swappable pressure-sensitive tips and multiple buttons that can be customized within the Quest’s native settings app. Additionally, the MX Ink offers 6DoF tracking in 3D space, haptic feedback, and a pressure-sensitive main button, enhancing the overall experience of sketching and designing in a virtual environment.

INNOVATIVE CHARGING OPTIONS

Logitech promises up to seven hours of battery life for the MX Ink stylus, with the option to charge it using a built-in USB-C port or the convenient MX Inkwell Charging Dock. The dock provides a hassle-free charging solution, allowing users to simply drop the stylus in for a quick recharge. While the dock is sold separately, pricing details have not yet been disclosed.

PAST COLLABORATIONS AND IMPROVEMENTS

The collaboration between Magic Leap and Wacom in the past aimed to integrate stylus technology into the Magic Leap One headset for enhanced content creation capabilities. However, this partnership required artists to juggle multiple devices and cables, limiting the freedom of movement and convenience. In contrast, the completely wireless MX Ink stylus offers a more seamless experience for artists, providing compatibility with various Meta Quest apps such as Adobe Substance 3D Modeler, Open Brush, Gravity Sketch, and Realize Medical.

AVAILABILITY AND PRICING

Logitech has not confirmed the exact release date for the MX Ink stylus, priced at $129.99. The company has announced that the stylus will be available later this year through Logitech, Meta, and Amazon, catering to a wide range of users interested in enhancing their mixed reality content creation experience.
