MICROSOFT’S PLAN TO RAISE XBOX GAME PASS ULTIMATE PRICING
Microsoft has announced plans to increase the price of its Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription starting September 12th. The new price will be $19.99 per month, which is $3 more than the current $16.99 monthly rate. This price hike will affect Ultimate subscribers, who predominantly make up the Game Pass user base.
PRICE INCREASES FOR PC GAME PASS SUBSCRIBERS
In addition to the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate price hike, PC Game Pass subscribers will also see a price increase in September, with the service moving from $9.99 to $11.99 per month. However, PC Game Pass subscribers will continue to have access to day-one titles. For a detailed list of the worldwide price changes, Microsoft has provided a resource for subscribers to consult.
INTRODUCTION OF XBOX GAME PASS STANDARD SUBSCRIPTION
Microsoft will introduce a new subscription option called Xbox Game Pass Standard, priced at $14.99 per month for new users. This standard subscription will not include day-one access to first-party Xbox games but will offer online console multiplayer access, a feature previously lacking in the Xbox Game Pass for Console subscription.
AVAILABILITY OF XBOX GAME PASS STANDARD
Existing Xbox Game Pass for Console subscribers will continue their subscription, but new subscribers will not have the option to select the console subscription starting July 10th. Instead, they will have to wait for the availability of the new Xbox Game Pass Standard subscription, which will be rolled out in the coming months.
IMPACT ON EXISTING SUBSCRIBERS
Existing Xbox Game Pass for Console subscribers will only be able to stack their subscriptions for up to 13 months from September 18th. However, this restriction will not affect existing subscription stacks, and subscribers can continue to enjoy uninterrupted service.
JUSTIFICATION FOR PRICE INCREASES
The price increases come as Microsoft prepares to add popular titles like "Call of Duty: Black Ops 6" to its Game Pass service later this year. These adjustments in pricing aim to offset the costs associated with adding high-profile games to the subscription service. The decision to raise prices has been anticipated since Microsoft officially confirmed the inclusion of the "Call of Duty" series in Game Pass.
