Lee Daniels explores new territory with horror film "The Deliverance"
Director Lee Daniels, known for his work in the hip-hop music industry, ventures into the horror genre with the upcoming Netflix film, "The Deliverance."
A chilling tale inspired by real events
"The Deliverance" draws inspiration from reports of a haunting in Gary, Indiana, in 2011. The film follows Ebony Jackson, portrayed by Andra Day, a woman whose life takes a dark turn as her sons, Andre and Nate, played by Anthony B. Jenkins and Caleb McLaughlin, are tormented by a malevolent entity.
A mother’s desperate plea for help
As Ebony grapples with the sinister forces plaguing her sons, she seeks assistance from Reverend Bernice James, played by Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, to perform an exorcism. However, not everyone, including social worker Cynthia Henry (Mo’Nique) and churchgoer Alberta (Glenn Close), is convinced of the supernatural nature of the events unfolding.
Uncertainty and fear
The trailer for "The Deliverance" showcases unsettling scenes of Andre exhibiting strange behavior and Nate seemingly controlled by a malevolent force. The film aims to blur the lines between reality and delusion, leaving viewers questioning the true nature of the Jenkins family’s plight.
