## COACHELLA 2024: YOUTUBE INTRODUCES MULTIVIEW TECHNOLOGY

YouTube, in collaboration with the Coachella music festival, will feature a new technology called Multiview during this year’s livestream. This technology allows viewers to watch multiple livestreams simultaneously on the same screen while listening to a single audio feed. The feature will be available on any YouTube TV app, without the need to subscribe to YouTube TV.

## EXPERIENCE MULTIVIEW AT COACHELLA 2024

Similar to NFL Sunday Ticket’s Multiview feature, which enables viewers to watch four different games at once, the Multiview feature at Coachella will allow viewers to monitor up to four different stages simultaneously. They can switch between audio feeds and switch to fullscreen view, with a total of six feeds or stages to choose from. The festival will span two weekends: April 12th through 14th and April 19th through 21st.

## YOUTUBE AND COACHELLA: A LONG-STANDING PARTNERSHIP

YouTube and Goldenvoice, the festival’s producer, have maintained an exclusive content partnership for 12 years. This collaboration allows fans to livestream both weekends of the festival on YouTube’s official channel for free. While YouTube pays a licensing fee for the exclusive livestream, the platform benefits from the ad revenue generated by the event. Past performances, such as Beyonce’s iconic set in 2018 and Blackpink’s memorable performance last year, have garnered millions of views and circulated widely on social media.

## CHALLENGES FACING COACHELLA 2024

Sales for the 2024 Coachella festival have been the slowest in over a decade, prompting concerns about generating additional attention. Tickets for Weekend 2 are still available on the festival’s website, as well as through third-party resale sites. This prolonged availability contrasts with the usual rapid sell-out of tickets for both weekends within hours or days. Various factors, such as high prices, the lineup quality, and general festival fatigue, have been cited as reasons for this year’s sluggish ticket sales.

## THE FUTURE OF COACHELLA ATTENDANCE

With a significant portion of Coachella’s usual audience opting out of this year’s festivities, whether due to disinterest or financial constraints, the impact on viewership remains uncertain. It remains to be seen whether the decline in on-site attendance will translate to increased viewership from YouTube audiences curious about streaming Coachella.
