On the dance floor at the Webby Awards in 2023, a sharp-dressed man in a stylish paisley suit approached me with a warm smile and complimented my content. It’s always gratifying to receive praise for your work, but coming from someone with an online presence like his was truly special. The man was none other than Matty Benedetto of Unnecessary Inventions, a creator who has garnered a massive following on various social media platforms by showcasing a variety of quirky and innovative gadgets designed to enhance our daily lives.

MAKING CONNECTIONS

After expressing my gratitude and trying to hide my blush, I suggested to Matty that we collaborate on a video series featuring creators like him. Over a year later, I found myself in Matty’s hometown of Burlington, Vermont, eager to learn more about his creative process and the making of his videos.

From glasses with built-in tear-absorbing sponges to a funnel that neatly organizes burrito fillings into a taco below, his whimsical creations have captivated audiences for years and propelled him to success as a creator.
