EVOLUTION OF VAMPIRE MYTHOLOGY
Our perception of vampires has transformed significantly over the years, from the classic portrayal in F. W. Murnau’s Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror to the upcoming remake by Robert Eggers. The teaser trailer for Eggers’ film promises a return to the moody and haunting roots of the undead lore.
A HAUNTING TALE OF OBSESSION
Set in 19th-century Germany, the remake of Nosferatu follows the story of Ellen Hutter, played by Lily Rose-Depp, who becomes the target of the legendary vampire Count Orlok, portrayed by Bill Skarsgård. As Ellen grapples with the eerie longing she feels, it becomes clear that Orlok’s influence extends beyond the physical realm. Only a few, like professor Albin Eberhart Von Franz, played by Willem Dafoe, recognize the imminent danger lurking in the shadows.
UNVEILING THE TERROR
With visuals of a menacing shadow looming overhead, Eggers’ reinterpretation of Nosferatu echoes the slow burn hysteria depicted in the 1922 film. The presence of Orlok challenges the beliefs and faith of the characters, triggering a battle against forces they are ill-prepared to face. As the release date of December 25th approaches, it is evident that not all will survive the encounter with the vampire.
