Paramount Plus to Increase Subscription Prices
JUST LIKE LAST SUMMER, Paramount Plus is gearing up to raise prices on some of its streaming service subscriptions.
New Pricing Plans Effective August 20th
PARAMOUNT RECENTLY ANNOUNCED that starting August 20th, the monthly costs for its Paramount Plus with Showtime, Paramount Plus Essential, and Paramount Plus with limited commercials plans will increase for all new subscribers. Paramount Plus with Showtime will cost $12.99 a month ($1 more expensive), Paramount Plus with limited commercials will cost $7.99 a month, and Paramount Plus Essential will cost $7.99 a month ($2 more expensive).
Unchanged Prices for Annual Subscribers
IF YOU’RE ALREADY SUBSCRIBED to annual Paramount Plus Essential and Paramount Plus with Showtime plans, the prices will remain the same. Current monthly subscribers to Paramount Plus Essential will continue to pay $5.99. However, subscribers to Paramount Plus with Showtime will need to start paying the new prices either on their next billing date or after September 20th.
Price Hikes Following Failed Merger
FOLLOWING THE FAILURE OF Paramount’s potential merger with Skydance, the decision to increase prices may be an attempt by parent company Paramount Global to recoup some of the streamer’s losses. Earlier this month, Paramount’s Office of the CEO — George Cheeks, Chris McCarthy, and Brian Robbins — communicated to shareholders their plans to stabilize the company and recoup $500 million in costs, which included job cuts and passing the burden onto consumers.
