HP REVIVES OMNIBOOK LINE WITH NEW HP OMNIBOOK ULTRA

HP is set to give a performance boost to its resurrected OmniBook line with the upcoming release of the HP OmniBook Ultra. This new laptop will feature an AMD Ryzen AI 300-series processor with integrated AMD Radeon 800M graphics, up to 32GB of RAM, and two 40Gbps Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports. Priced at $1,449.99 and available starting in August, the HP OmniBook Ultra will receive a free software update in the future, making it one of the first Copilot Plus PCs not powered by an ARM-based processor.

OMNIBOOK X AI VS. OMNIBOOK ULTRA

The OmniBook branding was recently revived with the HP OmniBook X AI laptop, which is powered by an ARM-based Snapdragon X Elite processor. However, with the AMD Ryzen AI 300 series inside the new OmniBook Ultra, users can expect a significant performance boost. The new model offers "up to 55 TOPS of NPU performance," according to HP.

AMD RYZEN AI 300 SERIES AND x86 PROCESSOR

The AMD Ryzen AI 300 series is an x86-based processor, which promises greater compatibility with a wider range of Windows applications. This contrasts with ARM-based processors like the Snapdragon X Elite, which may require emulation for some older applications to run on Windows PCs.

ENHANCEMENTS IN OMNIBOOK ULTRA

Both OmniBook models come with 14-inch, 2240 x 1400-pixel LCD touchscreens. The Ultra model, however, includes several upgrades such as a resolution bump to 9MP for the webcam, quad speakers supporting DTS:X Ultra, and two Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports in addition to an older USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A port.

BATTERY LIFE AND WEIGHT

The OmniBook Ultra weighs 3.48 pounds, approximately half a pound heavier than the OmniBook X AI, due to its larger 68Wh battery. Despite the larger battery, the OmniBook Ultra offers slightly less battery life, with up to 13 hours of average use or up to 21 hours of local video playback.

FUTURE UPDATES AND ADDITIONAL FEATURES

While the new OmniBook Ultra won’t be a Copilot Plus PC at launch, HP plans to release a free update in the future to add those features and functionalities. The timing and availability of the update will depend on Microsoft.
