# WHATSAPP INTRODUCES “CHAT LOCK” FEATURE
WhatsApp has introduced a new feature called “Chat Lock” intended to provide an added layer of privacy to users. The feature will enable users to keep their conversations locked in a password- or biometrics-protected folder, ensuring that notifications from those conversations do not display the sender or the message content.
# HOW DOES “CHAT LOCK” WORK?
If you are familiar with Apple’s hidden photos feature, then Chat Lock operates similarly, allowing users to keep their private conversations separate from others. The feature provides an extra level of protection that could be useful if you regularly have to share your unlocked phone with somebody. WhatsApp is already well-known for its end-to-end encrypted messages, however, that still would not stop someone with your unlocked phone from potentially seeing a message with their eyes.
# EXPERIENCE “CHAT LOCK” ON WHATSAPP
A user can gain access to the Chat Lock feature by updating the app to its latest version. You can also lock WhatsApp behind biometric authentication, and maybe in the future, users may see more options for Chat Lock, including locking for companion devices and custom password creation for chats.
# MESSAGING APPS WITH END-TO-END ENCRYPTION
Several other messaging apps offer end-to-end encryption to enhance users’ privacy. Signal and Telegram are two of the most popular messaging apps in the market that offer end-to-end encryption that ensures messages are only visible to the sender and recipient.
