Approaching the end of its run, Netflix’s adaptation of “The Witcher” is preparing to bid farewell to Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia. The final episodes of season 3, set to be released on July 27th, will mark the end of Cavill’s portrayal of the iconic character. Liam Hemsworth will take over the role for subsequent seasons.
In a newly released trailer, Netflix offers fans a glimpse of what they can expect in the final episodes of the season, and it appears to be a thrilling and bloody war. The trailer features a scene where Geralt’s sword shatters in battle, indicating that he is facing a formidable enemy. The trailer concludes with Geralt ominously proclaiming, “There’s no coming back from this.”
The first half, or volume, of “The Witcher” season 3 was released on Netflix in June and already set the stage for this epic conflict. The official synopsis for the season’s conclusion reveals that Geralt will take Ciri into hiding to protect their newly-reunited family from those seeking to harm them. With Yennefer responsible for Ciri’s magical training, they seek refuge in the fortress of Aretuza, only to discover a battlefield of corruption, dark magic, and treachery. They are left with no choice but to fight back, risking everything in order to save each other.
In addition to the trailer, Netflix has also shared several new images from the upcoming episodes, giving viewers a glimpse of the intense action and drama that awaits.
The decision to split the season into two volumes was partially inspired by “Stranger Things 4” and a desire to create a cliffhanger that would spark discussions among viewers. “In a streaming world, cliffhangers don’t really exist because you’re hitting play [right after an episode ends],” explains executive producer Steve Gaub. “You don’t get that satisfaction of anticipation and discussion and chatting online. So we wanted to give that to the fans, and the story provided the perfect opportunity to do so.”
As the highly-anticipated conclusion of season 3 nears, fans are eagerly awaiting the epic showdown and resolution of the conflicts that have been building throughout the series. With the introduction of Liam Hemsworth as the new Geralt of Rivia, the future of “The Witcher” promises to be just as thrilling and captivating as ever.
