# SONY UNVEILS ACCESS CONTROLLER FOR PLAYERS WITH DISABILITIES
Sony has recently announced the official name of its highly anticipated PS5 accessibility controller. The project, formerly known as Project Leonardo, will be called the Access controller. The new device was designed to cater to players with disabilities, offering a customizable gaming experience that adapts to their specific needs.
## Customizable Gaming Experience
The Access controller features swappable buttons and stick caps, which cater to different needs, allowing for an immersive gaming experience that is tailored for every player. Sony has also built an Access controller UI into the PS5 console, which offers control over button mapping and profiles.
## Tailored Gaming Configurations
According to Hideaki Nishino, senior VP of platform experience at Sony Interactive Entertainment, “On the PS5 console, players can select their preferred orientation for the Access controller, map different inputs to the various buttons, toggle buttons on or off, or even map two different inputs onto the same button.” This level of customization includes profiles for different games and the ability to use up to two Access controllers together as a virtual controller.
## Collaborative Play
Sony has also created a toggle mode that works like a keyboard’s caps lock key. This feature allows players to toggle a button on or off without having to hold it down. It’s useful for players with conditions that limit their ability to hold down buttons for extended periods.
## Release Date and Pricing
Sony released the information about the new controller as part of Global Accessibility Awareness Day. While it’s great news for the gaming community, we’re still waiting for information regarding pricing and the release date. Nishino had this to say, “We’ll have more to share about the Access controller for PS5, including more product and release details, in the months ahead.”
The PS5’s Access controller is a major development in making gaming more accessible to everyone. Sony’s continued efforts to make gaming more inclusive continue to receive praise from gaming enthusiasts and accessibility advocates alike. With any luck, the Access controller will remain affordable and widely available, ensuring that anyone with a disability can enjoy a seamless, customizable gaming experience.
