SAMSUNG IMPROVES ITS GAMING MONITOR TECHNOLOGY
Samsung has recently enhanced its new OLED G8 gaming monitor with additional features to address issues such as OLED burn-in. The monitor also boasts AI-powered resolution upscaling for both content and games.
PREORDERS AVAILABLE IN SELECT REGIONS
Preorders for the new display are currently open in regions like Australia and Singapore, hinting at an imminent launch in the US. The 32-inch Odyssey OLED G8 is listed on Best Buy for $1,299.99, making it slightly more affordable than Samsung’s previous OLED gaming monitor released last year.
AI-POWERED MONITOR WITH INNOVATIVE FEATURES
Samsung’s G80SD model marks its first AI-powered gaming monitor, equipped with the same NQ8 AI Gen3 processor found in the recently launched 2024 Neo QLED 8K TV. This processor enables the monitor to upscale content and games to nearly 4K resolution when used with its built-in smart TV apps and Gaming Hub.
IMPROVED COOLING SYSTEM AGAINST OLED BURN-IN
The company has also upgraded the G80SD’s cooling system to combat OLED burn-in, incorporating a proprietary "pulsating heat pipe" that is five times more effective at dissipating heat than previous methods. The monitor can detect and automatically adjust the brightness of static images to prevent burn-in.
HIGH-PERFORMANCE SPECIFICATIONS
The G8 gaming monitor features a flat display with a resolution of 3840 x 2160, a 240Hz refresh rate, and a 16:9 aspect ratio, delivering peak brightness of 250 nits and supporting FreeSync Premium Pro to minimize screen lag and tearing.
ENHANCED RESOLUTION UPSCALING
While resolution upscaling has been a common feature in TVs and streaming devices, its integration into a gaming monitor raises curiosity about its performance. As OLED gaming displays gain popularity, this feature could distinguish Samsung’s latest offering from the competition.
