AVAILABLE NEW THUNDERBOLT 5 CABLES
Today, you can find new Thunderbolt 5 cables on Amazon in various lengths, ranging from 1-foot to 3.3-foot, with prices starting at $23. These cables require a computer with a Thunderbolt 5 port and a compatible dock or accessory to function properly.
LIMITED LAPTOP COMPATIBILITY
Currently, the Razer Blade 18 is the only laptop known to have a Thunderbolt 5 port, but even then, it is not guaranteed. To access this port, you would need to purchase the $4,500 Mercury edition of the laptop, which also comes with Intel i9 and a mobile RTX 4090.
PERIPHERALS AND ACCESSORIES AVAILABILITY
Although Thunderbolt 5 cables are now available, compatible peripherals and accessories are still in development. Brands like Belkin, J5Create, OWC, and Sabrent have not listed any Thunderbolt 5 products on their websites yet. The Hyperdock, priced at $400, is currently out of stock.
POTENTIAL USES AND FUTURE DEVELOPMENTS
If you happen to own two Razer Blade 18 laptops, you could potentially use Thunderbolt Share to transfer files between them at high speeds. Otherwise, the cable can function as a USB4 or Thunderbolt 4 cable for now. Cable Matters’ Thunderbolt 5 cable is manufactured by Lintes, the same company that provided a prototype cable showcased at CES.
