ASUS Announces ROG Ally Z1 model with surprise pricing
ASUS has just confirmed the pricing of their new ROG Ally Z1 model, even though they had previously announced that pricing and availability wouldn’t be disclosed yet. This news comes as a surprise to many, especially since the new model is of a higher quality than the leaked data had suggested. Not only does the ROG Ally Z1 come with a last-gen processor, but it is also equipped with a 512GB PCIe Gen 4 SSD, which is an impressive feature considering its price.
The ROG Ally Z1 vs. Valve’s Steam Deck
With Valve’s Steam Deck priced at $650 for a 512GB model, ASUS’s ROG Ally Z1 is starting to look like a great deal. Especially if you’re not eager to replace the internal SSD on a $400 Steam Deck. However, it is worth waiting for reviews of the ASUS model before pulling the trigger. The ROG Ally Z1 may appear to be a great deal, but there are still a few concerns about it.
ROG Ally Z1 Reviewed
Our reviewer at The Verge recently reviewed the $700 ROG Ally and found that its biggest issues had little to do with its price and performance. Instead, battery life and portability were the main concerns. Unfortunately, we don’t have any indications that ASUS has improved these aspects of the ROG Ally Z1 with the new chip that has the same TDP as the original.
The Vanilla Z1 Model
No one outside of ASUS has had the chance to test the Vanilla Z1 model yet, so it’s impossible to say how much of an improvement over the original it will be. Even ASUS employees haven’t had a chance to touch it yet.
