# IT’S GOING TO BE A BUSY HOLIDAY FOR TIMOTHÉE CHALAMET FANS
Timothée Chalamet has a packed holiday schedule for his fans. After reprising his role as Paul Atreides in “Dune: Part Two,” Chalamet will be seen in a very different role as Willy Wonka in a prequel to “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.” The new film, titled “Wonka,” released its first trailer today, giving us a glimpse into the fantasy musical. The trailer shows Chalamet’s Wonka embarking on a journey to become a master chocolatier while facing challenges such as a chocolate cartel and fines for daydreaming.
# A FRESH TAKE ON AN ICONIC ROLE
Chalamet’s casting as Willy Wonka is an interesting choice considering the character is closely associated with Gene Wilder, who portrayed Wonka in the original 1971 film adaptation. Unfortunately, Wilder passed away in 2016. Another adaptation of the novel was attempted by Tim Burton in 2005, with Johnny Depp playing Wonka.
# A PROMISING DIRECTOR AND FAITHFUL VISUAL DESIGN
The prequel film is being directed by Paul King, known for his work on both “Paddington” films. King expressed his desire to stay true to the original film’s enduring and iconic visuals. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, he stated, “I didn’t want to reinvent those things ’cause it felt like that ’71 movie had come up with these incredibly enduring, iconic looks.” He aimed to create a companion piece that imagines the characters in that world 25 years earlier, as they eventually grow into the personas and the factory we are familiar with.
# A STAR-STUDDED CAST AND RELEASE DATE
The film also features talents such as Calah Lane, Keegan-Michael Key, Paterson Joseph, Matt Lucas, Mathew Baynton, Sally Hawkins, Rowan Atkinson, Jim Carter, Olivia Colman, and Hugh Grant, who plays an Oompa Loompa. “Wonka” is set to hit theaters on December 15th.
