### BABYLON 5 TO GET A NEW FULL-LENGTH ANIMATED MOVIE
Today, the long-awaited news about Babylon 5 has finally been revealed. Warner Bros. Animation will be releasing a full-length animated movie for the much-loved sci-fi series, Babylon 5. However, many details are still unclear as we don’t even have an official title yet. J. Michael Straczynski (JMS), the creator of the original series, has promised that it will be a “classic B5 down to a molecular level,” and fans are eagerly waiting for more information.
### THE DETAILS WE KNOW
It’s been over two weeks since JMS started teasing the fans about the coming news on his Patreon page and Twitter. We’ve seen glimpses of a new logo and a mysterious acronym – B5:TRH, but what exactly this stands for hasn’t yet been explained. JMS launched onto the scene with the announcement that the project has been finished for some time now, and the writer’s strike won’t have any effect on it, allowing fans to enjoy the project to its fullest. The film will not debut until San Diego Comic-Con in 2023, which takes place on July 20th.
### BABYLON 5’S IMPACT ON THE SCI-FI WORLD
Babylon 5 has been an influential force in the world of science fiction, setting an example for telling a story across a whole series instead of resetting every episode or season. It pioneered the trend of multi-year, pre-planned story arcs that other series have followed, such as Lost and the Battlestar Galactica reboot. Ronald D. Moore and Damon Lindelof have even confirmed that they borrowed this idea for their TV projects. The series also had a diverse and evolving cast of characters and deep political intrigue, making it feel more authentic than other sci-fi shows of its time.
### REVIVING A CLASSIC WITH NEW TWISTS
JMS has many fans excited for the release of this animated movie. He promised that the movie is new and not a redo of anything that came before. For fans who know the original series and love the characters, it will be interesting to see how JMS weaves a story using the remaining cast. Unfortunately, the passing of some of the original cast members like Andreas Katsulas (G’Kar), Mira Furlan (Delenn), and Jerry Doyle (Garibaldi) might change the dynamics of the cast and story.
